Common questions about setting up and using Vex
About Vex
Vex is a Discord bot for Emergency Response: Liberty County (ER:LC) communities. It connects your Discord server to your game server so staff can moderate, log shifts, run sessions, and manage players from one place.
Yes. Every feature is free. There are no paid tiers and no paywalls.
Vex is built from ERM. We credit the original project in the /support command. Vex runs on its own infrastructure and is maintained separately.
Vex has 183 commands. That includes ER:LC server control, punishments, infractions, shift tracking, leave of absence requests, sessions, reminders, custom commands, game logging, and a web dashboard for staff.
Getting started
Use the invite button on this site. Your Discord server needs at least 100 members. You also need Manage Server permission. After Vex joins, run /setup or /config to walk through the settings.
Vex only stays in Discord servers with 100 or more members. If your server is smaller, Vex will leave shortly after you invite it. This keeps the bot focused on active ER:LC communities. If you think your server should be an exception, ask in our Discord support server.
Your server probably has fewer than 100 members. Vex checks member count when it joins and leaves if you are below the minimum. Grow your community first, or reach out in our Discord support server if you need a whitelist exception.
Server owners and people with Manage Server are always management. Inside Vex you also pick Staff, Admin and Management roles. Staff handle shifts, punishments and leave requests. Admins can also run in-game commands, review leave and applications, and issue infractions. Management can do everything, including changing settings in the bot or the dashboard.
Open /config, go to the ER:LC section, and paste your server key from the in game settings menu. Only server owners can get that key. Never paste it in a public channel.
Keys can be reset in game. Generate a new one in ER:LC settings and paste it back into /config. Delete the old message if you shared it anywhere.
Linking accounts
Go to vex.cat/link and sign in with both accounts. You can also use /link or /erlc link in Discord. Linking lets Vex know who you are in game.
Discord checks see if players in your ER:LC server are also in your Discord. Staff can run /erlc check for a one time scan. You can also turn on automatic checks in /config so new players get warned or kicked if they are not linked and not in Discord.
They probably have not linked their accounts yet. Send them to vex.cat/link. After they link, run /erlc refresh or have them rejoin the game.
Staff and Shifts
Staff use /duty manage to clock in, take a break, or clock out. Use /duty time to see your hours, /duty active to see who is on duty now, and /duty leaderboard for team totals. Management can use /duty admin to fix someone else's shift.
Staff run /loa request with their dates and reason. Management uses /loa admin to approve or deny. Use /loa active to see who is currently on leave.
Sessions let your community vote on or schedule when the ER:LC server opens. Turn them on in /config under Sessions, then use >session start, >session poll, >session schedule, or >session end. Check status with >session status.
Use /activity and /activity show to see how active your staff team has been. Shift time from /duty also feeds into activity tracking.
Moderation
Use /punish with the player and punishment type. You can mention a Discord user or type a Roblox username. For timed bans use /tempban. For watch lists use /bolo.
Run /punishment manage, choose modify, and enter the punishment ID. You can change the type or reason, or delete it. Staff can only edit their own punishments unless they have Management or Admin.
Infractions are internal staff strikes, separate from in game punishments. Use /infractions issue to add one and /infractions view to look up history. Good for tracking staff conduct over time.
Junior staff use /banrequest with a username, reason, and evidence. The request goes to a management channel where senior staff approve or deny it.
Yes. Admins can use /erlc command with :kick or :ban. /tempban also bans in game for a set time. These are real actions, so only give Admin to people you trust.
Use /erlc panel for buttons, or commands like /erlc pm, /erlc message, /erlc hint, /erlc players, /erlc modcalls, and /erlc logs. Most need Staff. Raw commands need Admin.
Website Dashboard
Staff can sign in at vex.cat/dashboard to see live server info, mod calls, recent commands, moderation history, and player connections. You need Staff or Management in Vex to access your server's dashboard.
Discord only lets bots rename channels a few times every 10 minutes. Vex follows that limit. If a name is still wrong after 10 minutes, check that Vex has Manage Channels and that the channel still exists in /config.
It refreshes about every 30 seconds. If it stopped, make sure the message was not deleted, Vex can still send embeds in that channel, and your server key is still valid. Rebind it in /config if needed.
Privacy and Support
Vex stores what it needs to run your server: settings, shift records, punishments, infractions, and linked accounts. Data stays in your server. It is not shared with other communities.
Yes. Use /consent to manage your privacy settings on what Vex can show about you.
